Project Location: Houston, TX
Date Completed: August 2002
Owner: Annunciation Orthodox School
Architect: Philip Ewald Architecture
Square Feet: 64,700
This project includes a 64,700 square foot, three-story middle school building, a lower school building renovation and sitework renovation. The Byzantine-style middle school building houses classrooms, administrative offices, a two-story library, three-story atrium and an operating bell tower. The plumbing, mechanical, fire sprinkler and electrical systems were all delivered on a design-build basis. The finishes included the extensive use of terrazzo and plastic laminate millwork in each classroom. The site work included demolition of a temporary building, earthwork for a new soccer field and fencing of the entire campus located in a busy residential area.
Thanks to you and your team at D.E. Harvey Builders, we are truly enjoying our new middle school building. Without the coordination, planning and hard work from your in-house team and you subcontractors we would not have been able to start the last school year off right and had as successful of a year as we have had."
Head of School
Your managers not only finished the project on a very sensitive schedule, but did so with minimum disruption to the surrounding neighborhood and ongoing school operations. Furthermore, the project was completed safely and on budget. All of this required a dedicated, professional approach and a committed spirit of cooperation."
Doug Konopka, President, DHK Development
Chairman, Board of Trustees, Annunciation Orthodox School
You had to deal with an unprecedented short schedule, unprecedented rain during construction of the basement, demanding parents and a meticulous architect, but you succeeded in all areas. There were tight constraints, a sensitive neighborhood, and demanding expectations from the owner. But, even with all these tremendous challenges, you brought the project in on time and under budget."
